I went to the premier of this movie, not knowing what to expect because of typical Hmong movies. But I came away impressed and yet I felt there was some things that was left to be desired in this movie. It was quite a long movie. About 2 hours. There was some scenes in the movie, where it dragged the movie. Storytelling is something that needs work.

Overall, after Yia "The Bull" Mua, the rest of the actors and actresses were needed alot of seasoning and work. Kinda like another movie with Hmong's that made National Theatres earlier in the year. But in no terms did Yia "The Bull" Mua give an Academy Award performance but his acting made the movie credible.

Attention to details and over detailing kinda worked the movie into a stall at times. One part in the movie involved Yia's character, Fong is in a conversation with his father. Now Fong has a heavy, deep Green Hmong accent. And when the father spoke, he had a strong White Hmong accent.

Other times, Dao Vue's and Houa Lee's on screen character chemistry didn't match at all. There were flashes that it was American Movie, yet at time when these 2 started interacting for long periods of time, it drowned the movie and dragged it.
